Shigaraki Concrete
Shigaraki ware is one of the six ancient kilns in Japan that originated in the Kamakura period in Shigaraki, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. While taking advantage of the simple texture of the plain baked, the "Shigaraki Concret" was born, which harmonizes with modern architectural space with a modern design. Through joint research and development with the kiln, Shigaraki clay, a natural material, is formulated in an original blend, and molded and fired into a round form using the large-scale roclo technology that only skilled craftsmen have. In addition, we have also prepared a square type that takes into account the usability, which is rare for Shigaraki ware hand washes. Both are gems that can be used for a long time as beautiful daily necessities while maintaining the quality of traditional crafts. The quiet and quaint expression is recommended not only for residences, but also for spaces such as hotels and resort facilities.
Shigaraki's soil is said to be fireproof and strong in shape, making it suitable for "making large things". To make large pottery that exceeds 30 cm square, advanced technology that is different from ordinary pottery is required. Shigaraki Concri is manufactured by craftsmen who have been certified as "traditional craftsmen" with the molding technology of the big rokuro, who have only 5 people in the Shigaraki production area in the country. Everything from the surface to the edge finish is done by hand.
